As summer comes to an end, the ABQ BioPark wraps up its popular summer concert series with Slaid Cleaves at the Botanic Garden this Thursday, August 29. The final Summer Nights concert begins at 7 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m.

With admiration for artists like Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen, Texas-based Slaid Cleaves delves into a vein of the American heartland and draws a familiar yet undeniably creative take on Americana tunes. His songs often paint images of working class heroes and romantic scenery and ideals. The emotional weight carried by Cleaves' voice makes those familiar scenes an innovative experience for listeners. (Wild Beats subscribers can listen in this week's free song download.) Since his debut in 1990, Cleaves has released 12 albums and performed countless concerts across the U.S. and Europe. With concerts booked through 2013, Slaid Cleaves' popularity and imagination show no signs of stopping.

"We enjoyed having Slaid Cleaves at the Botanic Garden a few years ago and his vocals and guitar created an experience that guests remembered," said Maryann Torrez, BioPark Events Manager. "The summer has flown by and this is a bittersweet show for us. We are glad to have Slaid back on the stage but sorry to see the summer season ending."

On Thursday, Summer Nights guests can tour the Botanic Garden and hula hoop with the Ritzy Rouge Hula Hoop Troupe until 8 p.m. The Aquarium is open until 9 p.m. Summer Nights is sponsored by Big-I 107.9 New Mexico's Country, 104.7 Albuquerque's Classic Country and the Best Western Rio Grande Inn.
