Casa San Ysidro will celebrate its connection to the historic El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro with a free lecture and open house focusing on this historic route.
The El Camino Real, or “Royal Road of the Interior Lands,” connected Spain’s colonial capital at Mexico City to its northern frontier in New Mexico. Today the El Camino Real is part of the National Trails System administered by the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service and features historic locations, such as Casa San Ysidro, that commemorate the shared cultural and geographic heritage of the route.
At 2:30 pm Troy Ainsworth Ph.D., the Executive Director of the El Camino Real Trail Association will present a brief lecture entitled The El Camino Real and the Story of New Mexico. Between 1:00 and 4:00 the public may tour the adobe property and speak informally with volunteers who will highlight furnishings that entered New Mexico via the trail and goods that exemplify materials shipped south along this road. Free official NPS Trail stamps will also be available.
